St. Kateri Is the first Native American saint. She was born into a Mohawk tribe and contracted small pox at four years old, which scarred her face. At 19, she converted to Catholicism, vowing to only marry Jesus Christ. She would put thorns on her sleeping mat and was known for self-mortification. She prayed for the conversion of the Mohawks.
